YIOT O R I A FIRE AND MARINE INSURANCE COMPANY EFFECT INSURANCE ON ALL KINDS OF MERCHANDISE and PROPERTY AT LOWEST RATES B3§~ Prompt and Liberal Settlement Jgg H. DAVIS & CO., Aaents. MR. P. G. THOMAS, DENTIST will (by request) be LEAVING NELSON for a short Professional vieit to Blenheim on 25th of August. 2331

The Wood Sunday School will be opened this evening by a tea party at half-past five, after which addresses will be delivered by the Bishop of Nelson, MrC. Hunter Brown, Dr Scaly, and the Rev J. Leighton. Between the addresses there will be vocal and instrumental music by several well-known amateurs. The concert to-morrow evening promises to be one of the best and decidedly the most popular yet given by tbe Harmonic Society. It will consist of ballads, part songs, and choruses, besides instrumental music, and will be the means of introducing to the audience three or four vocalists and instrumentalists who have not yet taken part in any concerts in Nelson. To those who are really fond of music we can promise a very excellent evening's entertainment. We have received the Church Messenger for August, which contains, in addition to the diocesan church news of the month several interesting extracts from English papers and periodicals. From it wo learn that on the day previous to the Yen. Archdeacon Thorpe's departure for England the sum of £230, which had beeu collected in Nelson for the purpose of defraying the expenses of his trip home, was placed at hia disposal.
