The Hawea, which was advertised to sail from here for the North on Thursday, will be a day later, a 1 ? she only left Dunedin to-.iay. The inclemency of the weather his militated against the departure of the schooner Awaroa ] for Wanganui, which was to have sailed tbis morning. She will sail on the first indication of fine weather. In consequence of th° unpropitious state of the weather the Lady Barkly did not a.^il this afternoon. She is advertise! to euil forMotueka and Golden Bty to-morrow mornicg at eight o'clock. The ketch Pearl appears to have had rather a trying time of it lately. She left here for Cable Bay abont a month ago, proceeding thence to Waitapu, wh< rt she loaded up with timber for Pate*. During the late bad weather she anchored off the Manawatu 33-arii, where she lost one of her anchors imd chain. The master then deeaied it advisable to put to Mta, slipping the other anchor, and proceeded oa to Nelson, arriving here yesterday. The following is a condensed report of the wreck of the barque Cog du Village, taki n from the Narier Telegraph -.— Ihe Coq du Village made a protracted run from ivewcastlu of 24 days. She wa* 3 1 2 tons regist<r, and was owoed in Newca tie by Captain W. F. Weatherill and Measrs John Reii and Co. She was partially insured, and was chartered by Mr Vautier, of Napier, for ihs conveyance of coal, consisting of 442 tons. She was built at Quebec, of American pine in the year 1 865. Captain Edmonds reports that after dinner seeing that the gale was likely to continue, he ordered thn third bow«r anchor to be got in readit ess, but whiie in the act of getting it reaiy, the port bower chain parted. Veered cable oautiously on the starboard anchor to about 65 fathoms, got a tackle on the broken chain, and proceeded to haul it on boari^intendinK to nen<i it to the third bower. While thus employed, the 6tarboard chain parted, and the vessel bejfan to drift rapidly towards the breakers. Set the staysail and foretoppail, but finiicg the ship unmaoageab!e, slipped the ends of the cables as soon as possible. Bef-re this could be completed, the ship was close to the beach amongst the heavy breakers, bevond all chance oi being saved. Put th* helm up, when, as the ship piid off, she struck stem on, the sea ranking a clean breach over, smashing the wheel, and knocking Captain Edmonds' legs through tte bion c!e Jiffbt. Tne ship then canted broad - Bi<ie on to the beach, and fell over with a list off. The sea was at this time brenking clean over her, and the ship rapidly bnakine up. The fir?t ai tempt to reach sJiore was made by the mate, who was lowered overboard wiih a rope round hi* waist by Captain Eiinoads. The attempt failed, the mate being twice sucked underneath the vessal, and being nearly exhmsted, was hauled up again on dtek. By this time Mr Kraeft hid arrived and hiving provide! hinißelf with a line, succeeded in ihrowing it onboard. To this a rope was attached, and one by one ihe men were brought ashore, Ciptiin Edmonds bdng the la«.t to leave his ship. Some idea of the terrific force of the sea may be gathered from the fact thac the resfel parted her cables at half-past one o'clock in the afternoon, and by the time Cap'ain Edmonds reached shore the beach was strewed with the wreak, the whole occupying bo longer than an hour.
