"Is there no hope? ' the sick man said ; The silent doctor Bhook bis head. • ' While there is life there's hope/ he cried.' : " Mgrotoi dum animas est, tpes est." DR. L. L. SMITH (The only legally-qualified Medical mai advertising), CONSULTS— On all affections of the Nervous System (m matter from what cause arißinff) ; on al broken-down Constitutions ; on all Diseasei arising from early Indiscretions ; on Gout on Rheumatism. IN these Colonies, those excesses which w( have indulged in " hot youth " tell upot us with fearful interest. Our regreta are useless, our repining* fu'ile. The sole idea should be tbe chsnces wa possess of remedying the ills we" alreadj have, or combating the effects likely to result Hide it as he may— put on as good an exterior as he can— 'Still is the victim conscious that he is a living He, and that sooner or Jatei his vices will discover him to the world. Out Faith — our obligations to society at large— the welfare of our iuture offspring— and the duty we owe to ourselves — forbids procrastination, and points out to ue not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister— a careful man makes nquiries as to their standing ; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting tbe individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, ia the selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits thess necessary precautions, and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience, and ability for the particu lur ailment requiring treatment, be consults the uearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing that so many are driven road, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money? Have I not, for years, pointed out to them that I, Dr. L. Z, Smith, am the only legally-qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies ? Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are selling— such as Phosphodyne, Essence of Life, &c.— and had them analysed, and found them to oonsist of '• Burnt sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates I have pboved to be all forgeries. It is lor this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who requrie the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one moreover who has made this | his especial study. Dr L L, Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he hat been in Melbourne 24 years in full practice on Nervous Diseases Lobs of Power and Debility Syphilitic Affections Want of Condition Gout and Rheumatism. Dr. L. L. SMITH can beconsulted by letter --Fee £i. Medicines forwarded to all the colonies. Dr. L. L. SMITH, 182 Collins st. Bart. (Late the Residence of the Governor), MBLBOUBNJB. 210
