The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, AUGUST 4. 1876.
Our report of tbe City Council is unavoidably held over until Monday. ' By the Lutterworth, whieh anchored here yesterday, arrived for Mr Stafford three splendid pigs, a boar and two sows, of the Essex breed. They are none the worse for tbeir voyage, and have reached its end in capital condition. Three pairs of pure -bred fowls, which were put on board for the same gentleman, were not so fortunate, all of them having died on the passage. The sensation of relief experienced by the House must have been very great when at nine o'clock last night Mr Rees sat down, after talking lor four hours. His speech appears to have been one long personal bitter attack upon the Government, the main question at issue, namely, that of separation, being lost sight of altogether. If this is the turn the debate is going to take there is no knowing how long it may last. Owing to the detention of the Taranaki it is doubtful whether the Nelson football team will be able to proceed to Welliugton in her. It shows how little we know here of the weather that prevails outside, when on Buch a lovely day as we have enjoyed it has been blowing so furious a gale in Wellington that the Taupo and Wellington have both been compelled to run back to that port. A special train will leave Nelson for Eoxhill on Mopday at [eleven a.m., returning at six p.m.
