SINCE the introduction of Hand Sewing Machines, attempts have constantly been made to prove that they are fit to supersede the original Treadle Machines, but intending purchasers are requested to examine the matter and decide for themselves whether their claims are well founded, and whether also the objections raised (frequently hy interested parties) to the use of the Treadle cau be sustained by facts. Tho advertiser submits that each kind of machine ia good ia its proper place, — the " Hand " for those young ladies who may have occasion frequently to change their pkee of abode, or for those who are unable to give the small amount of time and trouble necessary to learn thoroughly tbe art (once acquired, of life long value), of usiug a 6i Treadle"' Machine, and also for the very few who are physically unable to use the foot motion. But when the latiy of the house desires to do a large quantity of sewing in the best manner, ana in the least possible time, A good Treadle Machine is unequalled. That the use of the feet in sewing is injurious to health is a matter upon which the " Doctors differ," ami any lady anxious upon that point would do well to consult her own medic«l adviser, who, in giving his opinion, would perhaps mske some slight distinction between the probable effects ot usinti a Machine which requires much power to drive it, and one which runs lightly, bb does the " Wheeler and Wilson. The undersigned invites inspection of his stock of Machines suitable for all ordiuary work, and will be happy to procure to order from best makers Machines required for special purposes. A new lot of HAND MACHINES to arrive per ' Lutterworth,' direct from tho makers, comprising both " Taylor's Improved," and "Taylor's Friction Wheel" HAND MACHINES sold for Cash, and TREADLE MACHINES either for Cash or for " time payment," and Prices are now Reduced !
