On Monday next, which is one of the statute holidays, the Banks and principal places of business in the town will be closed. A meeting of the members of the Fire Brigade will be held at the Brigade Hall after practice this evening. Dr. Cabr will give one of his popular aeances at Stoke this evening. Tiie football team . to . play against Wellington has been extended to fifteen by the accession to its ranks of Messrs Firth and Blackett. They will start on Monday, and we hope to hear that they have beeu able to give a good account of themselves. ' . The people of Stoke, inspired by the desire that ia now so prevalent everywhere to. procure the best church music available, have determined to make an effort to raise sufficient funds for the purchase of a cabinet organ for St. Barnabas' Church, and, as a first step in this direction, propose to give an entertainment on the first Wednesday in September, the chief feature of which will be the distribution of prizes from a gigautie Christmas Tree. Messrs Sclanders and Co. have received a telegram from Melbourne stating that their new teas had been trans-shipped from the steamer Queensland, from Foo Chow, to the Albion, which sailed yesterday for Nelson via the Bluff. . :
