The Nelson Lodge of Oddfellows will meet at M'Gee'a Hotel this » evening.
It will be seen by last night's dirieion list, which will be found id bur telegraphic column, that of the Nelson members Messrs Richmond, Gibbs, and Sharp voted" fot Mr Whitaker's resolutions, and Messrs Baigenb and Henry against them. Mr Curtis and Mr Hursthouse do not appear to have voted at all. A meeting of the members of the football team who are to proceed to Wellington next week to play the interprovincial match will be held at the Masonic Hotel this evensng, at 7 o'clock. An exquisite picture, which has just been completed by Mr Gully for a gentleman in England, is now on \iew in Mr Hounsell's window, prior to being forwarded to its destination. The view is. from Spooner's Range looking towards Blind Bay, and in the foreground. is represented the foliage of the New Zealand forest in almost end 7 less variety, and with a distinctness that is really wonderful. At the foot of the range is seen, the Wai-iti Valley and Foxhill, and in the distance the waters ■of Blind Bay and the blue hills of - Wakapuaka, the Croixelles, and Durville's Island. The picture is generally regarded as one of the moat beautiful of the many works of art that have issued from Mr Gully's studio. A_ the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, the following cases were heard, Messrs C. Hunter Brown and H. E. Curtis being on the Bench :— George Cook v. Alfred Helps. Action to recover £16 13s 9d for meat supplied. Judgment for plaintiff with costs. — Thomas Harley v. Lorenz Reisterer, of Wellington, for £_1 6s 6d, amouut of promissory note. Judgment , for plaintiff for amount claimed aud costs.— Watty v. Edward Handyside for £10 16s lOd for goods supplied. Judgment for plaintiff with costs.— Patterson v. Houghton for £13 14s 9d for goods supplied. Judgment for plaintiff with costs.— There were 70 cases set down for hearing in which the Central Board of Elucation sought to recover the education rate, of which 50 had been paid on receipt of the summons. The rest were adjourned in order to allow the Bench to decide whether they would allow professional fees to the Board's solicitor.
