The Sydney • Government have given no intimation ol their views respecting changes in the service, though asked by this Government. A select committee has been appointed to report on modification, if any; and the Postmast-r-General has suggested to the Sydney Government to appoint a similar committee. Saturday. Mr O'Shea reports wholesale produce prices as follows:— Flour, £11 10s to £12; maiz*, 4s 9 J to ss j oats, 2s 6d to 2j 8d; bran, Is 2d to Is 3d; pollard, £7; potatoes, £3 15s to £4; cheese, 9*d to lOd; hims, 10d; bacon, 9£d to lOd. Auckland, Friday. Sir Gorge Grey's Central Committee have placed David Golaie ir nomination for City West. J A landslip ccaurred on the railway near Mercer last night, extending 100 feet in length and 15 feet high. As the night train approached, the engine-driver observed it; he shut off steam and reversed tbe engine, but net in time to prevent tbe locomotive from rushing into the mass of earth. Ihe engine ran off the line and fell over oa its side, but both driver and stoker escaped unhurt by j 'imping off. There were only four passengers on the train, and thsy were all unhurt, the carriages remaining stationary on the line. The wheat market is firm. Sales have been made up to 4s 9d for best milling. John Beamish has committed tuicide owing to heavy losses by the Oxford bush fires some weeks ago. A seiious mining accident occurred at Hokitika yesterday when Hill and party's tunnel caved in, burying three men named Stuart Hill james Hill, and Joseph Roberts. They were expected to attend a lodge meeting <a*t night, but not putting in an appearauce a starch was made, ani the accident discovered. A large party commenced to dig them out, when Jaims Hill was found to be deiid aud Rolens badly injured.
