Passuiobe, Superintending Eugineer. The Hon Mr Hart (says the Post of June 29) has resolved upon breaking ground with respect to the bankruptcylaws. He will ask this afternoon in the Legislative Council for certain returns relative to the working of the existing act, which, when furnished, will afford pregnant proof of the failure of the measure in practice. " A coo," as the late George Stephen* son would term it, has nearly brought the train from Foxton to Palmerston to grief. It appears that two cows were seen ahead of. the engine, one on the line and the other close to it. Steam was immediately slacked off, but the unfortunate animal that was alongside the line made an attempt to cross it in front of the train, aud was run over, the engine being nearly thrown off the rails in coaQeqaeace. t
