The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY. JULY 1, 1876.
"We understand thafc Mr Pitcairn, who may be remembered here aa having been Judge Richmond's Secretary, has been appointed Acting Clerk of tho District and Resident Magistrate's Courts until Mr Baddeley is able to resume his duties. Thk Motueka coach essayed yesterday to make its customary trip to Motoeka, but it was found that Stratford's Creek was impassible. It really is too bad that a bridge, which might be erected afc a comparatively small cost, has nofc yefc been built: over this creek. ; ; The election of three members of fche Waimea Road Board will be held at noon on - Monday afc Stoke, Spring Grove, and Dovedale. A Temperance meeting was held last night at the Temperance Hall, which, despite the wretched weather thafc prevailed, was moderately well filled. The chair was taken by Mr J. T. Smith, and interesting addresses were delivered by the Rev G-. Harper, Mr W. Price, and Mr T. Scott. An imprest supply of half a million sterling just to keep things going for a few weeks is a demand that can scarcely be characterised as a modest one, bufc such, ifc wili be seen by our Parliamentary telegrams to-day, has been made by fche Government. There will probably be some talk ovor this on Tuesday, the day fixed for fche second reading of the Bill. The tiger seal which Mr Levy is now exhibiting in Trafalgar-streefc was this morning taken down to the harbor, and being duly tethered, was allowed to enjoy a bath, and to help himself to as. many herrings as he could catch. The way in which he disposed of these fish was "a caution." This strange looking animal wili be on view for the last time to-night. Mackay ; Second and Classical Master, Mr W. P. Howlett; Third Master, Mr Sedgwick; Fourth, Mr Firth; Modern languages, Mr Charles Harl.'.ng.
