Blenheim, Thursday. A 6m irfc shock of earthquake was felt here at 6.50 last evening; direction, west to east. Auckland, Wednes Jay Mdl'.e de Murska received a brilliant reception; she returns to Melbourne via South. De Vivo goes to 'Frisco. Some uneasiness is felt for tha overdue English ship Warlock, with the water supply material on board, 130 days out. Mr Saunders reports buyers of New Zealand Shipping Company shares at 78s; South British, 535; Colonial Bank, 328; Bank of New Zealand, £18 2s 6d; National Bank, 755. Dunedxn, Wednesday. The railway returns just published show that there was a great increase of all kinds of traffic, independently of that caused by the openfng of new lines* The number of passengers carried during the year was 335,931, or an increase on the previous year ot 114,473; goods, 202,378 tons, or an increase of 76,309 tons. The money receipts amounted to £104 219, showing an increa°e in twelve month 3 of £16,368. For the year 1874-5, the expenditure was 63*41 per cent, of receipts ; for 1875-96 it was 63*90 per cent. This increase waß occasioned by exceptional circumstances. The excess of receip'.s over expenditure waß £37,367. At a meeting of the Presbytery to-day thn following resolution, moved by Dr Copeland, was carried: — That this Presbytery declare its approval of the basis of union in the report of 1_75, and in accordance with the Synods instructions remit the same to the Kirk session to report to the nest meeting of the Presbytery.
