LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. , ■ Wellington, Saturday. In the. 'Legislative; Council yyesterda yCapkin* Eraser moved, ' and, Mr Hall seconded, the address in reply.;) Mr Waterhouse spoke at length, and said the progress of the colony was not so great as it had been made to appear. He denied that the position of the colony was one of prosperity* ; and said that the elections at Wanganiii and elsewhere disclosed corruption on the part of ttie Government. He criticised the Bank correspondence, which, he said, would damage New Zealand in the ejes of strangers;. . Col. 1 Kenny said that he would be ready to join any gentleman who would form an Opposition to the Government. , Mr (Jhamberlain denounced the Government aB reckless and extravagant. He said the Governor's Bpeech was barren. It should hare contained Immigration Returns, Public Works Statements, details of the escape of "Winiata, the murderer, &c. Dr, Pollen ' criticised and answered the remarks of Mr Waterhouae, and defended the action of the Government. Address adopted.
