At the opening of the coursing season at Mr Prank Eich's beautiful place, Bushby Park, Otago, there was some splendid sport, and eleven hares were killed. There was a large gathering of equestrians, and they were well entertained by Mr Eich and the Messrs Little Brothers.
From our "Waikato contemporary we learn that a splendid coal seam is said to have been discovered in the Thames district, between the old Miranda Redoubt and Pakorokoro, in a portion of the Waitekururu Creek. It haa been traced a distance of 300 yards, averaging 30 feet in thickness. About lcwt was broken off by the discoverers and taken to Auckland. The quality is said to be good. The Otago Daily Times says; — "As showing the extent to which the Sunday railway trains are availed of in Otago when there is a fine vessel to be seen at Port Chalmers, or when there is any other special attraction, it may be mentioned that the last train yesterday consisted of 19 carriages, and brought back to Dunedin 1,000 per- < sons; About 2,000 persons visited the port by train during the day."
