The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, JUNE 12, 1876.
The Masonic'Ball, which is to take place on the 29bh instant, promises to be a great success, as the tickets are already passing off rapidly. The town is to be canvassed tbis week for subscriptions in aid of s the Fire Brigade, whose funds are at a low ebb, and require replenishing. So valuable a body of men deserve support from the public, whose interest ifc is to keep them well supplied with all the necessary appliances. There can be little doubt thafc the canvassers will meet wifch a ready response to their solicitations.
Some enthusiastic members of the Town Bowing Club took a spin in their
boats yesterday afternoon. Evidently they will require plenty of practice ere they can become perfeet. We learn that another* lime {kiln ils about to be started in Nelson, Mr D. GHlbertson having purchased a site on the land of the estate of the late Mr J. Poynter, -where he intends to erect a lime kiln. The want of a little opposition in this branch of industry bas long been felt by builders, the high price «f lime having had a somewhat deterring effect on the building trade of Nelson, and the advent of a second lime kiln will be hailed with no little satisfaction by those interested. The Box plan of the De Murska concerts will be opened to-morrow at Mr Stanton's at twelve o'clock, and will continue bpen each day from ten till five. "We understand that a large number of seats have boen applied for, and it will be advisable for those parties intending to secure good places to make early application. Mdlle. de Murska will arrive in Nelson on Saturday next, and will leave for Auckland on the following Thursday. Private telegrams from Christchurch announce such continued success there that a second season has been entered , upon, which will be concluded to-morrow. Nomin ations of candidates for the Mayoralty, and also for the vacant seat in the Oity Council niusfc be made in writing to the Town Clerk beforo four o'clock to-morrow afternoon. Thb Hon Major Richmond, C.8., Chairman of Committees in the Legislative Council, and Mr Bichmond Hursthouse, M.H.R., were passengers to Wellington fey the Taranaki this morning. The remainder of the Nelson members will go over by the Taupo or . Otago on "Wednesday.
