The old licenses . were renewed with, the exception of John Palmer's. The police reported that the house had been badly conducted during the last twelve., months. Mr Acton Adams for the applicant presented a petition in favor : of the renewal signed by a large number rof the. ratepayers, and also, stated that the applicant's son, who was tha chief cause of the rows ; in the bouse, had left -■ the district.. The Court, however, deoided that, looking at the nature of;' the police report, the general disposition •f. tho applicant, and other facts of, which as Magistrates for the ' district they could not be ignorant, they were bound in their discretion to refuse the license, because . they did not , believe the applicant to be a fit and proper perso*. to conduct a licensed houso. ;- ■■'" ..-■.-•■' -. ■ -,■•;■-, .. »
