'Is there no hope?' the sick man said ; ; The silent doctor shook his head. * ' While there U life th'.>re's hope/ he cried." " JEgroto, dum animas est, apes est," 1 DR. L. L. SMITH (The only legally-qualified Medical man advertising), ; \' CONSULTS — On all affections of the Nervous System (no : matter from what cause arising) ; on all . broken-down Constitutions ; on all Diseases : arising from early Indiscretions ;' on Gout ; ' on Rheumatism. ; ,j -. IN these Colonies, those excesses which we have iridjalged ia " hot youth " tell upon iis -with .fearful' interest. Our regrets are useless, our repinings futile. The Bole idea should be the chnnces we possess of, remedying the ills we already have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may— put on as good an exterior as he can— still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our |Faith— our obligations to society at large— the welfare of our future offspring— and the duty we owe to 'ourselves — forbids procrastination, and points out to us not to wait till the ravages break put in our constitutions. ; Before negotiating with a merchnnt, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister— a careful mnn-makes '" inquiries 1 as to their standing'; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions, and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience, and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the ueareit man, whose experience and practice, perhaps,'lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing that so many are driven mad, are ruined .in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money? Hare I not, It r years, pointe<i out to them that I, Dr. L L, Smith, am the only : legally-qualified medical mau advertising in the Colonies? Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed tbe various nostrums they are selling— such as Phosphodyne, Essence of Life, &c— and had them analysed, and found them to oonsist of '• Burnt sugar > and flavoring matter," and the certificates I have pkoved to be all forgeries. It is fbr this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who requrie the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one moreover who haß made this his especial study. i DrL L. Smith is the only legally qualified: medical man advertising, and he has been in Melbourne 24 years in lull practice on Nervous Diseases Loss of Ppwtr and Debility Syphilitic Affection's Want of Condition Gout and Rheumatism. \ Dr. L. L. SMITH can beconsulted by. fetter — Fee £l. Medicines forwarded to allthe colonies. | Dr. L. L.' SMITH, 182 Collins st. Hast. ' ; (Late the Besidence i of tlie^ Governor), .".",' 7- ...,'.'''
