Wk*cukgton, Tuesday. Deputations irom the various Friendly Societies waited to-d»y upon the Bon. the Minister ot ••usti.e wiili r'cßpect to the Friendly Societies Act to be introduced next session. The circulated copies of the Bill not having any tables appended the deputation asked was it intended to have any printed. Mr Bow en Baid he could not say anything as to the tables of rHte* until the Government Ac'uiry had cent i-i lm report. The deputation asked why the different lodges and courts had not been registere I as they had applied to be, Mr Bowen replied that the Actuary would not certify that the tables and charges were sufficiently high to place the Societies in a Round financial position, and in consequence of that tbe Colonial Secretary could not register them. Mr Bowen said however, that the Colonial Secretary would be prepared to consider the represent .tions of aoy com* petent private Actuary the Societies might choose to employ on their own bebalf. It was also asked whether the Government were not very deßirous of inducing working men to join a certain industrial branch of the Government insurance scheme, and so in some measure render unnecessary tbe Friendly Societies. Mr Bowen paid euch a branch was not in existence nor to be created The District Oilicers of the various Friendly Societies here have agreed to form a large Committee to receive suggestions irom similar Committees throughout the colony and forward them to the Government, besides watching the Bill in its progress through the House. Mr Bowen also said that if there w.iv* any delegates at the places where the Luna called who were desirous ot coming to Wellington in connection with the 'passing of the Bill through the House they would be granted free paßßiges to Wellington.

Mataura from Port Chalmers in eighty days : the departures for the Colony were England's Glory and: Yalkjo for Auckland; City of Dublin for Canterbury, and We«t Cork for Otago. Tne Acclimatisation Bociety have voted £150 for co-operation with Auckland in introducing salmon ova from America, and it was decided that the Auckland Society be recommended to introduce a proportion of trout ova if possible. It was also decided to take immediate step* to introduce prairie hens from America. Further correspondence connected with the Titnara land case which is just published, shows that Sealer Bros, have decided to accept the Superintendent's recommendation to give up the section in dispute. A UCKGAMD, Tuesday. At the official inquiry into .the wreck of the brig Sarah, the captain stated that his reason for going so close to the land was to ascertain his position, and the gale came on so suddenly that he was unable to work off.
