The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, MAY 20. 1876.

Thk repprt and balance-sheet cf the Permanent Building Seciety pf Nelsen • will be found in our advertising columns. In our advertising columns will be found the prospectus of the Mount Rangitoto Silver Mining Company, which is to be formed to work the silver : mine recently discovered in- that locality.; The analysis of the specimens senfct.o the Melbourne TJniversity is of the most; encouraging nature, showing a yield «f 735 ounces to the ton of ore. Of the extent of the mine there also appears to be no doubt, the vein of ore * in the Company's lease being exposed to view ( fbr'a distance of 45 feet, when it dips into the mountain at a thickness often inches. Another vein has also been; cut, showing a large body of ore across a creek 25 feet wide; and opposite the vein now in view. Mr Stanton has been appointed local agent -in Nelson, for which 250 shares, have been reserved, the whole of which -will' doubtless be speedily taken up. Should this and the Richmond Hill mine turn "out as well as is reasonably expected, a new industry will be opened up that must have a beneficial effect net pnly upon the, districts immediately affected but upon the colpny at large. | Three days agp we published a teleTgratn received by his Hen of the Superintendent from Wellington informing, him of the result of an analysis of specimens of ore from the Richmond Hill I mine. We. now give the report in fall, I and heartily congratulate the shareholders on the remarkable richness of the ore being conclusively; proved :— Results - of analysis of specimen No. 1805, forwarded by H. D. Jackson, Esq., .Secretary to Richmond Hill ( Mining " Company, received on 12th May; >1876, and i reported on . 16th May, 1876. — A large mass of argentiferous ore for silver. Ifc has much the same |. general appearance and composition as f that; of , No,. 1750, received frem this mine pn the Ist October^ 1875, except"' thafc ! it is on the whole' finer grained. ! A piece of this sample weighing about ithree lbs, taken fairly across it,, when well \ broken -. up. and mixed, then resampled for assay, yielded silver at the rate I of 5960zs 7dwts 22grs troy per ton. : This with the former assays made nere^upon ore frpm the lecality named is ccnclusive as tc its remarkable richi ness as a silver ere. — (Signed) W. Sket. The weather table pested at ' the Telegraph' Office . tc-day presents an pminpus aspect, telling as it dees ef stprms which have laid lew the line in ivarieus directichs. " Lines dewn "is the apojogy for the absence of a weather report set against the name of each station except Westport, Greymouth, and Hokitika, at the former of which we are told that the bar is rough and river flooded, at the second that there lis a strong fresh in the river, and at the t third that a heavy sea prevails on the bar.' WE ; are informed by Mr R; Richardson, who arrived from. Cooper's accom-. modation house this afternoon, that he, Mr -A. S. Collins, and a man named Harry TETewersy started enhprseback from ,Mr 'Collins, house yesterday morning with the intention of making their way if possible over the saddle and ; through the Rai Valley into the Pjelorus. We shall giye; further particulars :of their jcurney next week., ?: .-,- : -,- '.'..."'.".„'.' ',] 7 7 ;. . t .
