Auckland Wednesdnr. A large fire occurred in Quoin-street at 2 o'clock tliia mor'ninsr. It was discovered m a small occupied house at the rear of the wooden block of buildings at the corner of Victbria-stre t and Queen-atreet, opposite the Greyhound Hotel. The fire spread with great rapidity, and destroyed the following premises ~in Queen-street ': — Cook's furnitureshop, stock insured in the Nor wish Union for £ 1 00 ;»,Cloae' Brothers, grocers, insurance on Bt^c'tt, £1000 ; Payne, watchmaker ; Hyras, hairdresser ; Tipah, fruit home, unoccupied ; Welamen, chemist, stock Insure i, .£l5O ; Bennett, draper ; TurreU's music shop, stouk insured, £450 Ih Viotoria-sireet, the Bluo Post dinina-rooms buil Hng, insured for £500 The fire was stopped by Montagu's brick building, wllich is damaged by the intense hiat. 'lhe losses BUBtajned by the variou* insurance companies, so far as yet ascertained, ate as foltows: -tfeWiZealaad; £1750 • Victoria, £750 ; Imperial, £500 ; Norwich Union, £600. The orlgiuof the fire i& unknown,, but the surrouading circumstances look very suspicious.
