Sir. — The value of dynnmite ha* long been acknowledged in its various applications; the latest example o£ which ha« ; taken place >in Ireland, where 'it has been successfully' tried' in clearing ii tract of land for agricultural purposes. The iand was bo covered with boulders as to be. .useless .on account of the cost of removing them. Dynamite was'trjed, when charge, of t two ounces in a six inch hole shattered immense^ sunken libuldera, so that they could be "removed with ; .easej and the pieces used for buildinjj walls without idreasinv. Loose boulders were broken up by placing chargeov of dynamite upon </tem,and covering these with other boulders. .The explosion broke top arid bottom boulders into fragments fit for building purposes. . ; . - f.
