The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, APRIL 20, 1876.

The Good Templars' charitable entertainment at the Temperance Hall last night was a decided success, both as regards the entertainment and attendance, and great credit is due to the promoters and entertainers. The celebration of the 32nd anniversary of the Nelson School Society took place yesterday afternoon and evening. Eour o'clock was the hour appointed for the children's tea, but long before then an eager crowd of youngsters was collected round the doors, having 'evidently made up their minds that they would not lose their seats at the table by being late. The early tea being over, the adults sat down ab six o'clock in large numbers, and between seven and eight the tables were cleared and a public meeting was held, at which the chair was taken by Mr Jamieson of Christchurch. The Secretary then read the report, which we had hoped to publish to-day, but are informed that it is not yet ready for the printers. Addresses were delivered by the Revs Dolamore and Beckenham, and by Messrs Campbell, I. M. Hill, Roberts, and Smart. These were, interspersed with recitations by the children and hymns, and a very pleasant meeting was brought to a close by the benediction about ten o'clock. A yert attractive entertainment is advertised to take place in the Provincial Hall to-morrow evening, in aid of Christ Church parsonage fund. A monster Christmas tree, laden with prizes to the number of 200, will be lighted at seven o'clock, and after the distribution of these prizes, for which tickets will be sold at the door for one shilling each, there will be a promenade concert, the performers being members of the Christ Church choir. A refreshment stall will be fitted up in the Grand Jury room, at which eatables and drinkables and delicacies of various kinds will be provided at moderate charges. The admission fee having been fixed at the low rate of one shilling and half-price for children, the promoters hope, and not unreasonably, to see a crowded room.
