These two led until nearing the turn for home, when Dead Heat came out of the ruck, soon passing Songster, and coming down the straight was hard ridden to catch the Ada colt; but Ray's generalship lauded the lat'er a winner by a neck. The betting was 3 to 2 agst Gnv Fawkes, and 3 to 1 agst Tadmor and Elfin King. While taking the preliminary canter Wild Rose bolted and took a coup'e of turns round the course before she could be Btopped. On coming to the post two false starts occurred, but on the fall of the flag Guy cut out the running, wi;h Fishhook close up, Tadmor lying third, Elfin King last but one, Tattler b-ing last. At the bottom of the course Fishhook went to the fore, but on coming into the strait Guy Fawkes and Tadmor closed upon him, all th r ee jockeys riding the ; r best; at the diatance-poat Tadmor fell back beaten; Fishhook still held a slight lead of Guy Buwkea, but on nearing home the latter c*m« again, and after a splendid struggle finished a dead heat with Fishhook Time, imin. 4F£-'ecs. Subsequently Fishhook was scratched, and Guy Fawkes walked over to the great disappointment of many.
