The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, APRIL 17, 1876 .
We learn that the mission of his Honor the Superintendent to Wellington has been most successful, and that the Government have acceded to all the proposals of the Provincial Executive with regard to the financial requirements of the year ending 30th September next, estimates of which had been carefully prepared, and were laid before the Government by the Executive. As we mentioned before, they provide for the erection of a cart bridge over the Maitai, and, in addition to this, funds j will be provided for the maintenance of all the main roads in the province, including that through th« Buller Yalley, the progress of which has been stopped through the want of the sinews of war. Under these new arrangements, however, it is hoped that the road may now be completed in a short time. Liberal allowances have been granted for charitable and educational purposes, and, indeed, all the financial difficulties that threatened the province in the interregnum which will last until the termination of the next session of Parliament have been removed. The province has occasion to be exceedingly grateful to Mr Curtis for the tact, judgment, and discretion with which he has conducted the necessary negotiations with the General Government, and to the latter for the manner in which they have fallen in with the wishes of the Provincial Executive as expressed by the Superintendent.
