The largest sale of horses which has ever t<ikfen' plnce in the province was held on Wednesday by Mr Mabin, at the Star and Garter Hotel, Richmond. In addition to the horees from /Tasmania and Mr Iloldci's, there were at least an equal number for sale from other part 3of the province. The hotel was gaily decorated with flag?, and the proprietor had several extra waiters from town, as iht-re V. were never so many people assembled there before. The Tastnunian horses brought £15 to £33, and the following are the prices obtained for Mr Holdei* : — Four-year-old mare, bvJHomedes, £27; four ditto grey mare, by DiomoJes, £21; three ditto mare, by Day Darn, £21; two ditto colt, by Glance-, 4>i7; three ditto mare, by -Day Dawn, £14; grey gelding, £16; grey gelding known as Butcher, £14; grey mare, £20; Subiltern,£l3; a roan four-year-old mare, £18 10s; gelding Dick, £10. A pair of horses were then put up, but several persons desiring them to be put up separately their wish was compile i with, MiGeorge Hamer purchasing the cream colored fons2o,,and Mr 11. H Stafford the bay horse for 'iis. '.the coaches and harness were then _, off-red, but. found no purchasers, after which horses . of various classes were disposed of. A cart mare from Spring Grove was sold at £31 10s; grey draught colt, unbroken, £30}

a useful horse accustomed to trap or saddle, <£25 10s; ha^k, £14 A buggy and harness was sold for £30. After this a sale was held by Mr Mabin at the Richmond Fair Ground, when Wanganui store wethers and ewes realised 10s.
