Minutes of Monthly Meeting of the Central Board of Education, Auiil 6. , Present — Messrs Barnicoat (chiirman), Campbell, Talbot, Holder, Shepherd, Rout,Dencker, Broad, Smith, Martin, Webster," Tarrant, At kinson, Hill, Burn, Malcolm; the Bishop of Nelson and Archdencoh Thorpe. The Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Resolved, That it is not expedient to grant a subsidy to a third school at Charleston. Resolved, That the Toi-Toi Valley Schoolroom be taken at a weekly rental of 7s, subject to a month's notice on either side, and with tbe understanding that the desks be so arranged as not to interfere with tho work of ; Sunday-school. The Secretary reported that the Fioance Committee had sent to the Provincial Executive, for the information of the General Government, an estimate ot the amount that ■ the Board would require for the next six months. It having been proposed that the salary of ■ the Third maßter at Bridge-street; be raised to £125 per annum, aod an amendment having been put fixing the salary at -5120,---the further discussion of the question was adjourned untill next month. Resolved, (after a division, ayes 11, noes 4} Th»t East Takaka be constituted an Education district. Resolved, That an additional grant of £30 be made to the Town Committee. ' ! '" Mr Webster obtained leave to withdraw; i his motion as to the abolition of the Board of Examiners. Resolved, That Mes«rs Graham and Mat-, thews' tender for clciring the Karamea reserve be not accepted. A memorial from residents in tha Amuri having been read, requesting the Board to constitute the Amuri an Education district, it was Resolved, That a subsidy ha granted to a school at the Amuri on the usual terms, the population there not being taifnc ; ent to warrant the forming of ap Education district. , A letter from Mr Dinan having been read, again, requesting that his children might be re-admitted to Cobden School, it was

A letter was read from Messrs Adams and Kingdon, applying for £70 13s Id, the amount qf defendant's costs re Roberts. A cheque for that sum wjib drawn. Mr Martin obtained leave to bring forward at next meeting his motion as to tho salary of the master nf Btoke School - - -Mr Smith gave notice that he would apply for £2 for a clock at Eighty-eight Valley. Mr Broad gave notice that he would move That the salary of the Assiotant Master at St Mary's Boys' School be increased to £1.0 a year. . Bank overdraft on Apvil 6, £179 lis lid.
