A meeting of the trustees of the Nelson Savings Bank was held this afternoon for the purpose of opening tenders for the erection of the new Bank building in Trafalgar-street. There were four tenders, of which Mr John Scott's, for £1050, being the lowest, was accepted. The buildiug will he of brick, and, in addition to the rooms required for the business of tbe Bank, will contain one or two suites of offices, which will be to let. The contract provides for the completion of tbe work in August. Several lady members of tbe Christ Church congregation are making preparations for a monster Christmas Tree to be exhibited in the Provincial Hall on the evening of Friday in Easter week, when tbere will also be instru mental music and Binging by the members of the choir, who have for some time past been practising glees, &c, for . the occasion. A . small charge will be made for admission, and the proceeds will be devoted to the Parsonage fun.d. The Hibernicon was well attended again on Saturday night, when a capital performance was given. There will be an entire change of programme tonight, the songs and dances being all new. Those who have not yet been to the entertainment should not lose the

Marshall has received a telegram from Mr Passtnore, superintending engineer of constructed railways, giving his consent to a free train b6ing provided for the conveyance, on Easter Monday, of the Volunteers to Wakefield, where it is proposed to hold a review of all the corps in the province. The Nelson Artillery' turned out on, Saturday afternoon with their 12 and 6-pouncjer Armstrong guns to compete for a money prize offered by C. Hunter Brown, Esq. The firing place wa n tho Wakapuaka Eoad near the Cemetery, and the target, 9 feet square, was erected oni the Boulder Bank at a distance of 2250 yards. The firing was very good, the shots striking all round the target, and within a very few feet of it, while the target displayed proofs of having been pretty severely knocked,, about by fragments of shells. The result was declared to be in favor of the. six-pounder, and the prize was presented by Mr Hunter Brown on the ground. Another prize has been offered by Dr Farrelle, which will be competed for next Saturday. "/""Mr Holder before leaving town on Saturday drove his coach and eight round the town, the Band, who volunteered their services for the occasion, accompanying him in one of Messrs Twist and Gay's conveyances, and playing " Auld Lang Syne." All the cabs on the Trafalgar- street stands joined in the procession, which created quite a little stir in the town. At Panama House Mr Holder halted in order to allow a photograph of the coach and eight to be taken by Messrs Bloch and Gibbs, who were awaiting his arrival. A tea and public meeting are to be held in the Wesleyan Church on Wednesday evening for the purpose of giving the members of that church both in town and country an opportunity of bidding farewell to the Rev T. Buddie, who is about to leave for the North Island, after having faithfully discharged his duties ih Nelson for three years. Mr Buddie has been most popular among the members of his own church, and has gained the regard and esteem of all denominations. As a member of the Central Board of Education he has served the province well, and his opinions were always listened to with the greatest respect. He will be much missed in. Nelson. There was a large assemblage of Mr J. E. Dodson's friends on the wharf today to bid farewell to him and Mrs and Miss Dodson, who started in the Ladybird for "Welliugton, where i they will embark on board the San Erancisco mail steamer, on their way to England. Mr Dodson hopes to be back in Nelson before the end of the year, and may feel sure of receiving a hearty welcome on bis return. At the Eesident Magistrate's Court this morning John Armstrong, charged with being drunk and using obscene language in the streets, was fined £1 and costs, or in default one week's im prisonment. — Two little children, one about nine, and the other about five years of age, were charged with stealing apples. They were admonished and discharged. . His Lordship Bishop Eedwood returned to Wellington by the Ladybird this afternoon, after a visitation of this portion of his diocese. Since the confirmation at St. Joseph's Church, Wakefield, his Lordship has visited Takaka, where he received a hearty welcome. An address was presented to him on Sunday week, and on the following day he was entertained at a luncheon, to which over fifty people, including members of all denominations, sat down. On Saturday he returned to Nelson, and yesterday administered the rite of confirmation to between forty and fifty candidates. Aw accident occurred yesterday morn ing on Mr Thompson's run, Pig Valley, to Mr Henry Bailey, of the Golden Fleece Hotel, who was out rabbit shooting in company with Mr H.
