The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 1876;

A correspondent to-day refers fco a matter that has more than once been before the public of Nelson, but on each occasion bas been permitted to drop without any action being taken. We refer to tbe want of a mortuary chapel in the cemetery. There are few of ns who have not at one time or another bepn palled upon to attend a funeral there, and many have suffered the greatest possible inconveuieij.ee either from the sun, wind,, or rain, while the service was being read. It is really surprising that such a state of things has been allowed to exist for so long when the remedy is so easy and need be by no means expensive; All are interested, more or less, and there should be no difficulty whatever in raising the small amount thafc would be required to erect such a building as would answer the purpose. We should like to see the matter taken up afc once, and none could do so more fittingly, than the trustees of the cemetery. A .Quadrille Assembly will be held in the 1 Odd-Bellows' HaU this evening. As will be seen in our advertising columns, that commodious part of section 4-26, Alton-street, is offered for sale. Tue drapers* 1 shops will be closed tomorrow in order that the assistants m.ay fc»ke part iv a game of cricket, to be played in tbe Botanical (gardens between the drapers and warehousemen. Atf anniversary sermon in connection with the Richmond Union Sunday School will be preached on Sunday next, in the Baptist Chapel, Richmond, by the Rev, «T. Beckenham, and on the following Tuesday there will be a public tea meeting.

On Sunday last' Bishop Redwood administered tho rite of confirmation to a large number of candidates afc St. Joseph's Church- Wakefield, -and afters wards prea.ched.td a crowded congrega^ tion, taking as his text the 17th verse of the Sth chapter of the Acts of the Apostles: — '?Then they imposed their hands upon them, and they all received the Holy Grhosfc.'', , A letter appears in our correspondence column to-day, urging the desirability of erecting saltwater swimming baths. It is a convenience that is greatly required in Nelsoo, and we shall be glad io see some steps taken in the direction of providing it. Our correspondent has enclosed tbe rules and regulations of the Thorndon baths at Wellington, which may be seen at our office by anyone who may wish to peruse them.
