The Thames Advertiser has the following : — We are informed that the Rev. Father Chastagnon, wbo is in charge of the Thames parish, has been served with a summons commanding him to appear in Auokland on the Hih instant, and show cause why he should not be committed to prison for failing to pay his education tax for the years 1875 and 1876. We have been given to understand that the Rev Father has distinctly stated that he will not aod cannot, having due regard to the dictates of his conscience, pay the tax, and that to prison he will go if the Government insist on such a .course. We have also good authority for stating that should the priest be arrested for the debt, it is in contemplation to give every facility to the officers of the law, and that a procession will be f jimed, headed by a bnnd of music, wbich will supply appropriate aits for tbe occasion. Tbe procession is to start from the Pacific Hotel, and accompany the rev. gentleman on board the steamer. Other matters of detail are being arranged, but we are not at liberty to mention more at present.
