There has been lots of fun in the cricketing, line of late, but I hope the grand old game is not going to stop at that stage in Nelson, nor do I think it will. I believe there are a great many amongst us who take a real interest in it and consider that no. boy has completed bis education until he has learnt
how tb play it really well. I believe that many are anxiously looking to day for news from Wellington ofthe match that is being played there as I write these lineß,ajjd who take a great interest in the result. Cricket burlesqued is something to laugh at — an old hand who was present in the Botanical Gardens yesterday said in my hearing it was something to mourn over — cricket impromptu, and as a means of passing a pleasant hour to two is not to be discouraged, but cricket in real earnest is diiferent from either. It stands out on the list of the many noble old English games as the one which every boy should take a pride in being able to play really well, and of his ignorance of which he ought to feel thoroughly ashamed. So I hope that in Nelson we shall soon turn out a team that will be able to hold ifcs own against any the colony can produce. There is no reason why we should not.
