As the Hawea was leaving the Grovernment Wharf this morning, the wind struck her on the starboard quarter, and drove her against the shaky old structure with such force as to imperil its safety, and to administer a considerable fright to the large number of people who were on the wharf seeing her ofi". Had it not been for the repairs recently made the consequences might have been serious. Tue Naval Brigade's new boat will be formally launched aud named afc half-past six this evening, after which the members bf the Brigade will dine together at the Custom House Hotel. At the Police Court this morning two lads named William and Thomas Berry were charged with obtaining a number of bottles by false pretences. The prosecutor not wishing to press the charge they were dismissed- with a warning. Messrs A. W. Scaife and H' D. Jackson were yesterday appointed auditors for the City Corporation. We learn from Mr Mabin who returned from Wangapeka yesterday that the plant recently belonging to the Culliford and Waimea Quartz Mining Companies was sold on Tuesday to miners in the district who intend testing the reefs once more.
