Just afier breakfast, and when, according to calculation, we ought to be on the cable, it wa* noticed that the man at the wheel was not keeping th 9 course though the he m was hird down, and it was soon beyond a doubt that we were fust to the cable. Erom tint moment until the cable showed above water there was the most anxious BUspense, and it was during this critictl period thot Captain PiirchiW's skill and seamanship came into play. We took every precaution to prevent any slip or surge in the hanling-in gear, such as had occurred previously, and as soon as the cab'e showed above water it was made fast, bo as to pr.vent it breaking away whsn the grapnel should ba taken in. The cable was in good conditin, but now having caught it there w»s a good deal of doubt as to whether it should be cut and tested, or underrun, to ' discover whether we were on the Wellington or Blenheim stfe. It is now noon, and preparations ara beiog mole to underrun the cable. The Tui upon coming up was kept alongside while the work of underrunning was going on, to reader any assistance that might be necessary. About one o'clock we reached the break and threw over the buoy, the end of the cable being fast to a chain which had been ready for it. All is now in good train for joining the break, bb the end can now be picked up in half an hour.
