WAKEFIELD jr. KELSON. A match was played at Wakefield on Saturday between these two clubs, and ended, in fact, in a decided victory for the country team, though in name it was a drawn match, as the game was not completed. The large majority obtained by the Wakefield men was in some degree owing to the fact that Nelson could only get ten men on the ground, while three of their best players, Messrs Witchell, 11. Cross, and Barnett were unable to take part in the game. The country eleven went to the wickets first, and as there was only one practised bowler against them they soon ran up the respectable score of 119, towards which Powell contributed 42, S. Fowler 23, and T. Eden 14. Powell's play was generally admired, although he had to thank his opponents for the opportunity of making so large a score, as he gave two catches early in the innings, which were missed. A capital lunch was provided by Mr Day of the Wakefield Arms, and this having been done justice to the Nelson men took the bat, and though they commenced badly, .the two first wickets falling for no runs, the others made a long stand, and it was not until the innings had lasted three hours that all were disposed of. The, number of runs obtained, however, was nothing like that of their opponents, as the bowling, especially of Eden, was remarkably good, nearly every ball being on the wicket. The game was a^ very pleasant one, and thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part in it, notwithstanding the excessive heat of the weather. The following are the scores : — WAKEFIELD. 8. Powell, b C.
