MR. HURSTHOUSE AT MOTUEKA.
Mr Richmond Hursthouse addressed a crowded meeting of electors in the Institute, Motueka on Wednesday night, C. Thorpe,Esq , iv the chair. After a few preliminary remarks from the chairman, Mr Hursthouse spoke at considerable length, during which he was frequently interrupted by loud applause. Several questions having been asked and satisfactorily answered, Mr Hursthouse sat down amidst prolonged applause, after which the following resolution was proposed by Mr F. D. Greenwood and seconded by Mr James M'Donald— " That this meeting has full confidence in Mr Hursthouse as a fit and proper person to represent the Motueka district in the forthcoming Parliament." The following amendment was proposed by Mr W. W. Coppins iind seconded by Mr J. Glover— " That this meeting has no confidence in Mr Hursthouse" Upon the chairman putting the question to the meeting, the. following wasthe result:— For the amendment, 12; for the-original resolution, 30, Mr Hursthouse having thanked the electors for the confidence expressed in him, the proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman. — [Communicated.]
