AMONG the innumerable makes and descriptions of SEWING MACHINES before the Public, each claiming distinctive 1 superiority, there are yet ONLY THREE ' Descriptions of STITCHES, viz. :— 1. The CHAIN (or Single Thread) Stitch. 1 2. The SHUTTLE (or, so-called, " Lock ") 'Stitch. 3. the "Grover and Baker" ELASTIC STITCH. <" The Chain Stitch being superseded by the faat and permanent work of the two Jast described, it has to he further explained that Ahh the Machines advertised . as " Lock- ; Stitch ''.Machines, whether operating with a : needle— as the Howe and the Singer, or with a needle, bobbin, and rotary book, as the Wheeler & Wilson Machine— make the shut' tie stitch and nothing else, and none of the infirmities of this stitch have been got rid of by the assumption of the term " Lock-Stitch." The GLOVER & BAKER Company (not; depreciating,, the shuttle-stitch for some puri poses) manufacture Shuttle- Machines as well an the Grover and Baker or Elustie-Stitch . Machines, ■ but they r«commend the latter as aneq jailed fur family work, as for those kinds of work whare sfirength as well as beauty of stitch are required, and particularly for any materials which are to be washed and. ironed. A comparison of a Spam o£ both kinds of sewing will confirm the assertion that the Grover & Baker-stitch, while possessing the elasticity which i%. deficient in thaShafcfile: stitch, is even more fast and durable and siara worthy of the term " lockstitch." ■' ;i "'• ' ■■'•■" [ Hand-Machine 3> at well as Table Machines, Semi-Cabinet, and Full Cabinet, in Walnut--wood and Mahogany, various styles, may be ba had at REDUCED PRICES ,o n e'a s t t c r m si ;■•:■■■ ■ . - with au ; ■ - } Accessories belonging, and Instructions for working them, pE the Company's : . r ,i .
