The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 21, 1875.
It is notified that the Banks will be closed on Monday next. The sale of work in aid of the Christ Church parsonage commenced this afternoon in the Parsonage grounds, and will be continued this evening and to-morrow afternoon and evening. The prizes will be distributed to the successful scholars in the Town School* by his Honor the Superintendent in the Provincial Hall to-morrow afternoon, at three o'clock. The polling for a City Councillor, which took place yesterday, and excited a good deal of interest, resulted in the return of Mr Thomas . Harley, the numbers being as follows : — T Harley ... ...' 217 H. D. Jackson ... ... 193 H. J. L. Aogarde ... 68 W. Healy ... ... 15 The entertainment last evening in aid of the Fife and Drum Band of the Artillery Cadet Corps was a complete success. The "Daughter of the Kegiraenfc," the first piece played, went off very well, thanks to the spirited acting of the ladies in particular, and this was followed by the " Spectre Bridegroom," which,. from the laughter ifc produced, most certainly amused, and met with the approbation of the audience.
