The Hokitika papers mention that Mr Marks, of the Haast, forwarded to the Union Bank per steamer Maori, a parcel of gold containing 660z8. The sample is said to be one of the finest which haa yet been received from the southern part of the province. In* the parcel is a nugget weighing sozs 6dwts, thickly studded with quartz, and about a score of smaller pieces varying from three to ten dwts each. A number of Chinamen are reported to be on their way down to the Haast, to whom Mr Marks has offered favorable inducements for working on She large race there. The railway train from Edinburgh to London makes 388 miles in nine and a-half hours, the actual runniug being a little inside of eight hours, or at an average speed of 50 miles an hour.
