Six months additional leave of absence having been granted to Judge Richmond, he will not return to the colony before Eebruary, 1877. Mb. B. Short, will preach in the Congregational Church, Hardy-street, to-morrow. In the evening, the text will be, " What must I do to be saved?" TnE sale of work in connection with All Saints' Church will commence in the Provincial Hall on Monday next, aad will continue during that and the following days. A great quantity of useful articles of various [descriptions will be offered for sale at the lowest possible prices, upon which ao reductions will be made, nor will there be au auction afterwards. A number of beautiful photographic and other views will be on view during the three days of the sale. The receipts will be devoted to reducing the building debt on the church, and the purchase of a bell, which it is hoped may be the fiist of a peal. The Nelson Amateur Variety Troupe will give a performance at Spring Grove on Tuesday evening. Their acrobatic feats are such as should secure them a large audience. The opening game of the cricket season, which was to have been played at Wakefield yesterday, was postponed until Tuesday next on account of the weather. A special meeting of the City Council was held yesterday to consider the appeal against the recent assessment, of which there were but six. The decisions were :— Dr Williams, valuation of cottages to remain aa at present; house reduced to £40. J. Sharp', brewery to remain as .at present • cottages to be reduced to £15. Cr Everett moved the reduction of the brewery assessment from £250 to £225, but the proposal fell through from the want of a seconder. J. Hounsell to remain as at present. J. Percy, reduced from £30 to £25. George Buckeridge, Toi-toi Talley, dwelling house as at present; Bmall shop reduced to £4 10s. R. W. Stewart, two properties in Collingwood and Manukau streets reduced from £55 to £45.
