The steamer Hero arrive! at Auckland this mowing after a distaatrous passage, the particulars of which wUI be found in our te)egrams. , . The iSsraid (JfelN)uMe) says:— « 01 all the moat finished vessels and fiaeat models in our harbor at present, the *.c. Bingarooma far and sway excels. Her Dame h is puzzled many a score, ourselves among thin number. We have tried the Maori, Fijian, Tcngan, Tahiti and JSamoa for a simi ar word, but none would fr. Our iaquiaitiveneas, however, has solved the mystery. It appears many years ago a member of the firm of McMeckan, Black wo )d and Co, was makingapiss^ge up from New Zealand in a saiiiug chip; the heavy gusts of winter blow furiously ag.iinst them; and on approaching the roast of Tasmania, the vessel was complied to take shelter. This the captain found a nook of a bay in distr'ct called hingarooma, and right -glad were they 10 flad such a friendly anchorage. The few aboriginals there were came down the coast to bid them welcome; and so pleased was the captain and those who sailed with him, that one of the passengers vowed that if it ahou d be his goo i fortune to hare an interest in a vessel, and priviligel to give her a name, it should be tbe Kinganoaia; hence the origin of the gilded letters so prominently displayed oa the how of the steamer. We wish h»r ftreat aaccess, acd under the guidance of our old frien.l, Captain M'Leao, we are quit j sure our wish will bo not be in vaioj for if New Zealand can be (nautica ly speaking) brought nearer the Bingarooma, ao4 Jonn M'Leao will do it.
