At a late muster of tho Greymouth Volunteers tbe captain of the corpa read a letter from Nelson asking how many membera might be expected to be present at the encampment there in Easter nexf. It was agreed to reply that from 25 to 30 would possibly attend. Mr George Dodson, of Dunedin, has lately purchased a number of broo<J mares, and intends going in tor blood stock. His purchases consist of four of Mr Eed wood's mares, one being the grand 01-l Wetsail, and three from Mr Nosworthy, viz., Amuri, Azucena, aud Flat Iron. A still, with accompanying appliances has fallen into the hands of the Customs authorities at Greymouth. It was landed from the Maori, from Pott Chalmers, where it was received under bond from a homo vessel, nnd was addressed to Mr Thomas Waddell. It ha3 been detained for instructions from Wellington, and for the explanai.ioos of the coneignee as to the purpose of its intended use. A respectably dressed woman, named Elizabeth Collins, tried hard to drown herself by jumping off the Dunedin wharf. She was rescued, but pleaded hard to be allowed to drown herself. Sho is just married, and her husband ill-treated her. An Auckland telegram to (he N. Z. ■ Times, dated Friday last, says: "The* sensation <f to-day was the meeting between the levanting husbund, who was a passenger by the ship John Eennie from London, aud his wife and chilJ, who. had pursued him in the Somersetshire to Melbourne, and cnme hero by tho steamer Hero, arriving before him. The husband professed pleasure at meeting her, and said that ha left in a tiff. She repelled his advances. Several hundred people assembled on the wharf to eeo them land.
