CITY COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Council was held last night. The Town Clerk read a legal opinion regarding the retirement of the members on. the 9th September next, to the effect that Cr Thompson must retire, and also two others ,to be decided by the Council. Upon lots being drawn, Messrs Harper and Webb were declared to be the retiring Councillors. Mr Loasby's resignation of the office of pouridkeeper was received. An application was received from Mr E. Carter for permission to move his weighbridge * three feet more j on to the footpath in "Wainieastreet. After, a long discussion, notice of motion for the next meeting was given by Cr Everett, That the resolution passed at a recent meeting of the Council having reference to the application of Mr "R. Carter be reconsidered. A letter was read from Messrs N. Edwards and Co., stating that owing to the rise in the price of coal at the Grey, they would for the future be ! compelled to charge £2 2s per ton. '• - — — . •• •'" ;,. i
