The Wal'ace arrived at the Grey to-day. TheTaupolefc Ooehunga for New Plymouth this morning. The Charles Edward arrived at Hokitika ibis morning, and will leave for the Grey tomorrow. The Turanaki will arrive from the North to-umrrow morning, and sail for Picton and South by the same tide. The Chile, with immigrants for Taranaki and Nelson, It ft the docks on the 10th of June. The Ladybird arrived this morning, and proceeded to the outer anchorago by the same tide, where she will lie until the evening, thus Riving time to reply by the San Francisco mnilto correspondence received via Suez by tbe Tararua lest night. The inquiry, held by Mr Johnston, Colector of Customs, into the loss of the schoontr Esther, was concluded this morning. The decision arrived at was—" That it is questionable whether Captain Johnson used due discretion in not I aving an anchor watch, but beyond thU there is no blame whatever to be attributed either to the c»ptain or crew." The following is tbe paragraph in tbe Post referred to by Mr O'Neil in the Gtntral Assembly.—" Captain M'Lean, of the Ot*go, reports tbat on his last voyage he aiw 1 ewy breakers about four to-five miles west of Kourangi Point. He stetmed outside of the breakers, and found that the water was much, discolrred, but in consequence of he thick rain falling, he was unable to get tbe cross bearings from. Rooks' Point. The breakers were so heavy that if a small vessel bad pot, among them she must have been cspsizel" Messis M'Meckan, Blickwood, and Co.'s fine sttamer Tar»rua, J. W. Clark commander, with the English mail, arrived at the Commercial Wharf, at 930 p.m. last night. She left S mdridge at 2 15 p.m. on the 23rd, passed the Heads at 5*45 p.m, and Swan Island at 330 p.m, on the 24th, made the Splander at 7 a.m. on the 28t-, end arrived at the Bluff at 1-30 p.m. Had light N.K. winds and fine weather until passing the Solander, when a fresh breeze set in from the S;E. with rain. Le't the Bluff at 9 o'clock iamo night, and arrived at Port Chalmers at i2;3op.m. on the 29th; left there at 4 p.m. on' the 30th, and arrived at Lyttelton at 1 pro. on tho 31st; left again at 6 p.m same day, ani arrived at Wellington at 10 a.m on the Ist August; left Welltncton at 10 a.m. yesterday,nrliving na above. Had strong 13.E. wind across the Straits, with htavy sea :and rain. The Tararua has 11 tons of cirgo •for this port. She sailed ior Melbourne, via (West Coast ports, this morning.
