Dymoek.who has resigned the management of the Bank of Australasia htre to take the management of the National Bank at Dunedin, was presented with a costly gold watch and chain as a mark of their esteem, by the constituents of the former Bank. The spawning season at the Acclimatisation Gardens haß commenced; 1000 trout ova. have already been obtained for artifical hitching. The Curator expects to get more than double the number ot ova that was obtained last year. About 3000 trout were hatched out last year. A large number oE trout of immense size hare been caught in thy Avon, some weighing over fifteen pounds each. In the Supremo Coart this morning, an action for £500 damages for libel commenced. The plaintiff is Joseph Newton, an imp-Tier of e.eds and agricultural implements, and the defendant is Wiilinm Wilson, teedsman and nurseryman , formerly Mayor of Chtistchurch. The alleged libel is based on a statement said to have been made by Mr Wibon, that Mr Newion would be in the Bankruptcy Court within three months.
