To the Editor ov the • Evenisg Mail.'
Sir— Chancii-t? yesterday to stroll up Waimea-street I was surprised at the preparation I saw making there tor erecting a weighbridge in clo«e proximity to the newly constructed footpath, even jf it does not encroach upon ic. As it wiil be impossible to make use of thi_ weighbridge without destroying the footpath and .eriously iifreKgring with traffic— drivim? pedestrians into tbe road to avoid horses and drays, I wondered at the City Council r emitting «nch an obstruction. Mentioning the matter to a friend, lie explained to me that the oßender was no other than Mr. Robert Carter, a member of the City Council! So I perceive here as in some other j . places, while the public are restrained Jrom ' breaking the law s, men in authority may get i them at defiance.
