The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, JULY 3, 1875.

With to-day's issue of the Evening Mail is published a supplement containing the annual report of the Inspector of Schools, which will be read with interest throughout the province. The election of members of the various Road Boards takes place on Monday next. We shall feel obliged to any of our country friends who will furnish us with the result in their respective districts. The following reply to the petition recently presented to hia Excellency the Governor, praying for a commutation of Newman Boseley's sentence, was received this morning by Mr A. J. Richmond : — " Sir—l have the honor to inform you that the petition forwarded by you in favor of Newman Boseley, now a prisoner in Nelson gaol, has been laid before the Governor. His Excellency thinks that the petition ought not to be considered so soon after sentence, especially during the absence from the colony of the Judge who tried and sentenced the prisoner." I am, &c, C. Bowen. Christ Church is to be lighted with gas for the first time to-morrow evening, temporary standards and burners having been fitted up until more ornamental ones are obtained from Melbourne. Residents at Stoke and the surrounding districts are to have an opportunity afforded them of viewing the Bishop of Nelson's beautiful collection of photographs, &c, which are to be exhibited in the Public Hall on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next. We would recommend all who are able to do so to avail themselves of this opportunity.
