This race, was run on May 25. The following is from the Melbourne Aigus of May 26 :•— Mr-*as>_n_uel Gardiner's br m Lurline, by Traducer ... ... ... ... ... J Barmaid 2 Gloom ..; ... ... 3 Edith, Stella, Nunnery, Lucretia, and JFraternile alao started. Betting — Even against Lurline, 4 and 5 to 1 against Stella, 6 to 1 against Fraterniie, Gloom, and Nunnery. There was a good start, Barmaid aod Lucretia showing in front, Lurlioe was slow in getting away, but entering tbe rails she took ao inside position, and improved that position as they approached the stand, where Lucretia led Barmaid by half a length, Stella being third, Lurline fourth, Fraternini on the extreme right, next. Lucretia and Barmaid went away with a long lead, but Lucretia soon shot her bolt, Lurline and Gloom tuking second and third positions as they ran along the back of the course. Davis was niggling at Gloom, and on the rise of the hill Barmaid drew slightly away from Lurline, and loud cries proclaimed Barmaid's success, but Donnelly then drew tbe whip to lurline, and just touched ber with it, and then shaking it at her, she responded gunuely, caught Barmaid nt the end of tbe rails, and tbe black filly dying away, the grand old mare cantered home, amid tremendous cheering, an easy winner by four lenetbs, Gloom a bad third, Stella fourth. Nunnery fifth, Lucretia sixth, Eraternite seventb, and Edith, who lost her rider, iast. Time, 3-n 41s. Lurline received a great ovation ou returning to scale.
