Arrived — Barque Lochinvar, from London, whence abe sailed on the 4th of Febraary. Sb&reports speaking the ship Chile, from Nelson, on the 19th March, 60 days out, in latitude 20 deg. South. Auckland, Saturday. In the Provincial Council last night, Mr Sheehan's resolutions for rescinding the resolutions carried at tbe previous Bitting, and substituting othere to the effect that it was oot desirable to abolish provincialism until some other scheme of government had been submitted to the people, and that no alteration should be made till the Parliament after next meets, were carried by a majority of one, Mr Sheehan has resigned the Provincial Secretaryship, in consequence of enforced absence from tho province for twelve months. ' Tbe Council has voted that the Superintendent takeover the control of the police from the General Govern- ' ment. '
