INTER-PROVINCIAL Wellington, Thursday. It is stated on good authority, that Mr W. S. Moorhouse, Mayor of Wellington, will be a candidate for the representation of the Wairau in the General Assembly, vacant by the resignation of Mr Seymour. In the I'rovincial Council last night Mr Hutchnspn's motion requestii'-g the Council to assist in carrjing out the resolution of the General Government for abolishing the provinces in the North Island was defeated by 19 io 4, on Mr Bunny moving the previous question. 1 20 p.m. Sailed — Lady Bird forNrrth. In the address in reply to the opening speech by tbe Superintendent, is the following with regard to the abolit'on of provinces in the Nrrth Is'and:— "We concur in the opinion that any organic change of the constitution ought to be made in a carefully guarded manner, and on'y after due deliberation, and that we should ba better informed as to what organisation is to be propoel to supersede the existing institutions before agreeing to any change.
