The Son Francisco mail will bo due at Auckland on Sunday next. Haumonic Society. — A mistake occurred in our notice of the coming concert in last night's issue. The concert takes place next Thursday, the 29th instant, and the practice, at which a full attendance is requested, tonight. Tenders aro invited for falling bush, in connection with the telegraph line, between Matakitaki and the Grip. We have to acknowledge the receipt of £6, the prooeeds ofthe entertaiomeut given by the Nelson Amateur Variety Troupe in aid of the widows aod families of Downes and Kelly. Cricket Match.— -The match between the Westland and Nelaon elevens will commence in Victory Square at 11

o'clock to-morrow morning. The Nelson team, it is said, will comprise six men from the town, and five from Wakefield. We aro glad to learn tbot Mr Williams, who met with the accident at the excavation, is progressing favorably, his leg having been set on Priday last. It is, however, likely to be a long time before he is fit to go to work again. The unfortunate sufferer is anxious to let the Nelson public know that he is very grateful for all that is being done for tho assistance of his wife and family. Grace Egerton. — This lady and Mr Case gave another capital entertainment last night, when the Hall was well filled, and the audience delighted and amused by the admirable delineations of various characters. They will appear again this evening with an entirely new programme. Queen's Birthday Raced. — We understand that there is every probability of immediate steps being taken for getting up a race meetiDg on the 24th of uext month. For this purpose a meeting of those interested will be held at the Masonic Hotel on Saturday afternoon, at three o'clock. Temperance Hall. — The Good Templars gave an entertainment at tbe i Temperance Hall last night, which was crowded. The programme was a well arranged one, consisting of vocal and instrumental music, readings and recitations, and valuable assistance was rendered in carrying it out by Mr Jacobs, Mr and the Misses Augarde, Mr Glover, Mr Dunn, Mr Percy Sheppard, who presided at the harmonium, and others. It was brought to a close by tbe chorus, " Lift high the Templar Banner," and " God Save the Queen," and at the conclusion Mr Smith informed the audience that it was intended to repeat the entertainment at an eatly date for the benefit of the bereaved and sufferers by the late accident. He also thanked Messrs Jacobs and Augarde for the assistance they had rendered on the present occasion, and remarked that to the Misses Augarde the thanks of lhe Good Templars were especially due, and their performances ou the piano deserved the applause with which thty were greeted. Mr Augarde, iv acknowledging the thanks, stated that ie was well kuown that he had been a teetotaler for several years, and he had joined the Templars as an example to others, and in order to render help especially in the musical department. The Chief Justice at Dunedin the other day refused to excuse a juryman on tbe ground (hat he was to be married on the day for which he was summoned as a juror. A telegram to the Auckland Star says: — "The stone from the prospectors' claim at Tairua is shaping for a yield of BO ounces to the ton. A Napier telegram says : — " More than two hundred persons, young and old, are now receiving aid from the relief fund that waß subscribed to relieve the sick and distressed. The Charleston Herald, published on Saturday, notes that Mr Patrick Scanlon, of Charleston, has left en route to the Karamea, having received a telegram to meet tho Provincial Secretary at that place to-morrow Sunday. Tho Herald understands that Mr Scanlon has received some appointment in connection with the Karamea settlement.
