Mr Alexander Leigbton, who was virtually the author of the famous " Tales of the Borders,' 5 by far the greater part of which was written by him, died in Edinburgh on the 24th of January. He was born at Dundee, in 1800, and had consequently considerably passed the allotted three score years aud ten, For three or four years bffore hia death, paralyuis had gradually weakened his powers, and he passed peacefully away, dying of sheer old age.
