DIOCESAN SYNOD.
(Friday, April 2.) Morning service wag held at Christ Church at 1 1 -a m., afttr •which the Hoy Communion ■was administer d. TTvh v sermon was preached by the Rev W. Ronaldson, and the offertory, which amounted to £3 ss, will be devoted to the General Church Fund. At 4 p m. the Synod met in the Masonic Hall. There were present: President, the Right Eev the Lord Bishop of Nelson. Clergy: Yen Archdearons Butt and Thorpe, Revs 3. Poole, J. Leighton, W. Ronaldson, T. Plavell, G. T N. Watkins, E. S. Cross, C. Moon, T. S. Hutcbinson, H. Rutherfurd, ,T. P. Kempt 1 orne, and T. S. Grace. Laity: Messrs V. Y. Fell (Registrar), C. Hunter Br nvn, J. M. Pierson, F. Greenwood, W. H. Turner, A J. Richmond, E Baigent, B. Walrasley, A S. Collins, Acton Adams, F. 11. Pickering, Boor, Scaly, Pasley, and H. Martin, jun. The Rev C. O. Mules was absent on sick le>ve, and the Rev J. Spear and Mr H. D Ja< kson were prevented by illness fr m attending. The proceo ings having been openpd with prayer, the Bishop delivered liis opening address. Hesolved, on the motion of the Yen. Archdeacon Butt, seconded by Mr Acton Adajis, That a vote of thanks be tendered to his L rdship the Bishop for his very interesting address, and that he be requested to allow it to be primed. It was resolved, That the Rev W. Ronaldson be asked to act as Cleric <1 Secretary, and Mr C Hunter Brown as Lay Secret try. The President having informed the Synod that the Rev Mr Andrew, at present a resident in Ne'son,who held a license from the Bisiiop of Wellington to officintein his Diocese, might like to be invited to take a aeat in the Syi'od, and to take part in the discussions without voting, it was resolved, on the motion of the Yen Arciidkacon Thort>e, seconded by Mr A. J. Richmond. That the Rev Mr Andrew be invited to take his seat ia the Synod. Mr J. W. Barnicoat 'was then appointed Chairman of Committees, and Messrs GoulBtone Hnd IT. D. Jackson Au 'itors. The report of the Standing Committee was then read. The President appointed the following Committees :—(!). Trusts : Revs. S. Poole, T. Fl .veil, and J. Leighton. Messrs F. D. Greenwood, Acton Adams, and A. S. Collins. (II). Print'ng and Synod expenses : Rev. W. Ronaldson, Messrs C. Y. Fell and C. Hunter Brown. (III). Acts of Synod : Yen. Archdeacons Buit and Thorpe, Rev. W. Ronaldson, Messrs Barnicoat and Acton Adams. The report of the Melantsian Mission was laid on the table l>y Mr Fell. Th» Yen. Arch leacon Thorpe moved, and Mr C. Hun'er Brown i-econded, That a Committee be appointel to enquire into the church teaching of the young: in the dioc se, the number and condition of the Sunday schools, and the provision made for supplying them with teaching materials, and to • eport upon the same to the Synol; such Commit cc to c ns ; st o' the R< v.-. T. Flavell and T. S Hutchinson, Messrs Pasley, Turner, and the mover Agreed to. Resolved, That a Finance Committee be appointed, to consist of the Revs. W. Ronaldson and J. Leighton, Measrs Fell, Burnicoat, and Acton Adamc, Thu Synod adjourned at 530 p.m. until 3 p.m. to-day.
